P.L.A.Y. Preschool is a curriculum-based, non-profit, family co-op, community preschool in Avalon, California on Catalina Island.

We serve potty-trained children, aged 2.5-5 years old, and their families.

What is a community preschool? A preschool that thrives on the involvement of the local community. The school is run by a board of directors made up of student family members and local community members. Family members of children at P.L.A.Y. Preschool are expected to be involved in the following ways:

  • School/Grounds Cleanups - Scheduled in advance, 3 times per year for 4-6 hours, typically on a Saturday (adults only). A great way to have fun and bond with student families while working to better the school.

  • Fundraising - Our annual fundraiser requires the active involvement of all families throughout October and November.

  • In-School Involvement

    • Family members are welcome to volunteer their time to be involved in the school day.

    • Educational opportunities are available for all families.

FAQs

    • Comfortable, weather appropriate clothing, closed-toed shoes required (no flip-flops or sandals).

    • A water bottle that they can open (water is available if forgotten).

    • Snack (think healthy!)

    • Extra pair of clothes (shirt, pants, underwear, socks), accidents and messes happen!

  • Tuition is $290 per month. Need-based scholarships are available.

  • School is in session Monday through Thursday from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Please do not drop children off before 8:15 and arrive promptly for pickup.

  • Our annual fundraiser is held in November. We ask that parents help to spread the word, sell raffle tickets, and contribute an auction item.
